Last summer I had the privilege of joining my friend and fellow wedding photographer, Charlotte of Electric Blue Photography & Film, in photographing Gilly and Simon’s destination wedding in Aberystwyth, Wales!
In true welsh style, our day started in the rain! Luckily everyone came prepared with umbrellas and positivity and the rain made no difference to the excitement of the day. Charlotte and I took the 3-hour journey from Coventry on the morning of the wedding and arrived just in time to have bride and groom photos on the beachfront before the ceremony…
I instantly felt at home with the smell of sea salt and the sound of gulls cackling overhead. I couldn’t help but smile when looking at the ocean and welsh hills surrounding the bay. Even the Victorian style houses painted all sorts of pastel colors were picturesque and just made me feel happy inside! I can definitely see why Gilly and Simon planned their dream destination wedding in Aberystwyth!
Gilly and Simon arranged to have a humanist wedding at the top of Consitution Hill. You can only get to the top of the hill via the Electric Cliff Railway. Unknowingly at first, this little adventure set the mood of the wedding. Every minute of the day seemed to unfold a unique characteristic that reflected the bride and groom. From pink flamingos, dinosaur cake toppers, brightly patterned bow ties, Alice In Wonderland shoes, confetti cannons, bubbles, bowling alleys… the list goes on! You’ll just have to keep scrolling to see what I mean. ;)
When you plan an outdoor ceremony in Wales, you bring rainbow-colored umbrellas and carry on!
… And when it really starts to chuck in down you move the expensive equipment under cover
Rain or shine, it didn’t matter. Gilly and Simon got married!!!
Quite proud of my bubble selfie… not gonna lie
You can’t have a day at the seaside without ice cream cones!
The best reaction to a confetti canon I have ever seen!!
We couldn’t have been luckier for a break in the clouds and an evening sunset!
The Aberystwyth coastline at sunset is truly stunning…
Partying late into the night the only way we know how…
I absolutely loved photographing Gilly and Simon’s wedding at the seaside with Charlotte. We battled the wind and rain and I’m pretty sure we walked a good 10 miles back and forth the coastline but celebrating with these people and capturing the story of Gilly and Simon’s love and union made up for it a hundred times over. I will never forget this one!
