A while back I was really excited to start a blog series called Table for Two. The goal being to encourage couples, married or dating, to make time quality time for each other in our ever-changing and ever-demanding lives. Truth be told, I haven’t written a Table for Two post in a long time because life has been just that… ever-changing and ever-demanding. But while Joel and I were raiding the aisles of Asda last night, he reminded me of the importance of spontaneity by picking up a gingerbread house kit and asking if I wanted to make it with him that night. My thoughts went like this…
… it’s embarrassing to admit but it’s true. And then I realized. How can I say no to my loving, hard-working husband standing there wide eyed in the baking aisle holding a box with elves on it?! I couldn’t. And I’m glad I didn’t.
Christmas is about family and Jesus and all the good things that make the world feel right again, but if we’re not careful it can become a sort of mask. It can hide the broken things in our life that need fixing and the relationships we’ve been ignoring because we’re too caught up with working late, shopping later, scheduling parties, organising our crazy families and completing advent photo challenges….. guilty. Christmas can be crazy, but it doesn’t have to be. Joel and I are working on creating a peaceful and moderately-paced Christmas season this year and we hope you will join us. We hope you will put the work away and the shopping lists down and make time to date your partner no matter how messy your house is, how tired you feel or what’s next on the agenda.
It’s lopsided and droopy, but we are proud. ;)
I was very impressed with Joel’s tree skills!
If you haven’t guessed it yet, today’s date night idea is to make a gingerbread house! Or in our case… a rocky road house! We bought the moulds and the cheap chocolate and just had fun with it! You can do the same- buy a kit or experiment with your own materials. Regardless- put on some Sinatra, laugh like kids and share life with one another.
Happy Christmas,
Hannah & Joel
