When you meet Ruth and Luke it’s clear as day they are meant to be together; they really are a match made in heaven! I remember sipping tea and eating scones with these two on their engagement shoot blissfully discussing how Covid was going to be a distant memory by the time their summer wedding rolled around… oh dear… how optimistic we were!! After having no other option than to postpone their full wedding day for the following year, we were very happily surprised to hear they were allowed a micro wedding in early autumn. That was just the green light Ruth and Luke needed to tie the knot and finally become husband and wife!!
Ruth and Luke’s micro wedding took place in their original wedding venue, St John’s church in Kenilworth. Every time I photograph in this church I am amazed at how versatile and organically beautiful it is. Ruth’s dream was to bring the outside in. So with the help of friends and family, hundreds of lights were strung and olive trees, vines, and flowers decorated every corner. It truly was a magical scene!
In the morning I spent a short time with Ruth and a handful of friends to capture the getting ready bustle before arriving at the church. Seeing Ruth’s dress after hearing about it for so many months was surely a highlight. It was even more special to photograph for Ruth because her mother made it for her! Can you believe it?!
At St John’s Ruth and Luke pledged their love to one another before God and their beloved guests before we all braved the wind chill for photos on the outskirts of Kenilworth Castle. After pictures, we retired to the church to warm up with hot mugs of tea and await a candle-lit dinner complete with antipasto, a hearty stew, and affogato to finish. Delicious and such a great idea for a menu that has to put together last minute (take note micro wedding brides!). Oh, and you can’t forget the cake! Two stunning cakes were made by the groom’s sister who happens to be one of my past brides too! On full bellies, we laughed and cried during speeches from the parents, best man, maid of honor, and the groom himself. It was the perfect end to the most wonderful day.
Ruth and Luke’s micro wedding proves that it is possible to have a big celebration of your marriage on a smaller scale. Ruth and Luke are planning a second celebration later this year, hoping to invite all of their friends and family that couldn’t make it to the first, but I know they are so relieved to finally be married. At the end of the day, that really is what matters most.
