The Lake District is the UK’s largest National Park and not surprisingly, one of the most favorited getaway spots in the UK. After traveling to the Lake District for various adventures, camping trips, photo shoots, and destination weddings, I have fallen in LOVE with the place. Easily the most scenic landscapes you’ll find in England.
In the chilly month of October, we took a road trip with a few friends from Coventry to Cumbria and rented a barn in the North Western Fells for the weekend. Literally, a stonewalled, wooden beamed barn with no central heating and hardly any electricity! Not one of those modern renovated barn air bnbs you can find. ;) In hindsight, I wish I would have taken photos of our barn campsite because it was hilarious! 8 of us huddled into the spider-filled barn and made our homes on plastic covered mattresses and bed frames that were seconds from breaking. Because I was afraid of spiders falling on my head, Joel and I shared a single bottom bunk for two nights- lol!
In the mornings we had a communal breakfast in the adjoining barn and huddled by the electric heater for warmth. We managed to have decent weather for the Lake District in October, so by that I mean it was drizzling. ;) The short walk to the showers was even better at night because it was pitch black- not a sliver of light anywhere but a few steps to the back of the barn and you were welcomed with a decent warm shower (and a few more spiders).
Adventures like this make for the best stories. Who needs a fancy renovated barn when you can have the bare bones of one!!
On the Saturday we decided to hike up and explore Cat Bells. Even with the misty rain and cloud cover, it was a beautiful view and the autumn colors were in full force. After a packed lunch at the top and forcing my friends into letting me take a few photos of them (thank you Adam and Charis!!!) we hiked back to the cars and drove a short way to Keswick to get some hot coffee to warm up. Keswick happens to be less than 10 minutes drive from the beautiful wedding venue, Lodore Falls where I am photographing a wedding this summer. Literally cannot wait!! Keswick is also one of the cutest towns in Cumbria for sure and perfect for dog lovers! I’m pretty sure everyone and their mother had at least one dog with them!
As of 2019 I am now offering Adventure Sessions. I thought it was time to combine my love for photography and for the great outdoors together. These Adventure Sessions are essentially Lifestyle sessions with an adventurous approach. You get more flexible coverage, more flexible locations and not even the sky is the limit (say what??).
If you’re curious about booking an Adventure Session, send me a message!
If you’re eloping in Cumbria or planning a destination wedding in the Lake District, I would also love to hear from you! I offer full day coverage only, so no strict time restrictions allowing you to relax and simply enjoy your wedding day with the people you love the most. Send me a message here.
