They met when they were teenagers. Through high school and university, travels to Barcelona, Prague, Boston and now enduring a long distance engagement between Glasgow and Coventry. These two are in it for the long haul.
It’s been a joy getting to know Heather and Ruairidh this year as friends and now as a 2017 bride and groom! When Heather asked me to be her wedding photographer I literally screamed and danced around my kitchen throwing air punches. I am just so excited for these two!!!
On a weekend Ruairidh was visiting Heather in Coventry, we had their engagement shoot in the German Christmas Market in Birmingham. Though it was chilly, I was so thankful it wasn’t pouring down with rain (see my previous e-shoot with umbrellas and soppy feet here!) Because formalities are overrated, we asked a few friends to join us for an evening out in the markets.
A short 20-minute train from Coventry, we arrived in Birmingham city centre and immediately felt swallowed by the hustle and bustle of the festive markets. We decided to leave the others wading through the crowds in joyful desperation of bratwurst and beer (hehe!) while we headed towards a quieter location. We found the Library of Birmingham and rode the escalators to the rooftop- everyone knows a city is prettier from up high!
The light faded quickly, but not to worry! The Ferris wheel lights illuminated the background and created a soft and romantic backdrop and a certain uniqueness to the pictures. Jackpot! We later braved the crowds and joined our friends in the market, grabbed cups of hot chocolate to keep warm and took a few final photos…
Heather and Ruairidh are fun, easy going and their love is genuine. There is a very good reason why they caught each other’s eye 7 years ago and haven’t looked back since. They are made for each other. No number of years or amount of distance can shake these two!
I am over the moon to fly with Joel to Aberdeen in July for their wedding at Mar Lodge! I love that Heather and Ruairidh chose to have their wedding back home in the highlands of Scotland. Mar Lodge looks incredible- a regal mansion tucked away in the hills. Heather and I are already planning where to have their bride and groom photos…! There’s talk of rivers and woodlands but I don’t want to give it all away just yet!
Scotland, here we come!
