This surprise proposal at Kenilworth Castle in Warwickshire had me hooked the moment I received an email from Harper explaining the grand plans for her brother, Guvi, to surprise his girlfriend, Nav, on her birthday with a diamond ring!
I was recommended to Harper by her friend, Sophie, who you may remember booked a portrait photo shoot with me a few months back at Fargo Village in Coventry! (See Sophie’s photo shoot here!) As Harper and I chatted for weeks through emails and phone calls leading up to the proposal, I got a clear picture of the excitement surrounding this engagement and the depth of meaning it held for both families.
Guvi and Nav received mutual blessings from their families to marry. Nav knew it was only a matter of time before Guvi would pop the question. In order to keep the proposal a complete surprise, Guvi took Nav to Kenilworth Castle on her birthday. She was expecting a walk around the gardens and a romantic dinner afterwards- little did she know Harper and Guvi’s mum were preparing a room in the Gatehouse with hundreds of red rose petals, candles, and champagne! With prior permission to have the proposal and photos at Kenilworth Castle, the entire Gatehouse was closed to the public which gave VIP treatment to the bride and groom-to-be!
I arrived early to photograph the decorated room and hide before Guvi and Nav arrived. As I hid in the corner of the room, my heart was literally pounding in anticipation! The moment Nav walked into the room she gasped and saw the words written in red rose petals, “Will You Marry Me?” She turned to see Guvi down on his knee and without hesitation she said, “Yes!” The pair enjoyed toasting glasses of champagne and took a few quiet moments to be together and cherish the moment.
Soon after, we began their engagement session with natural photos in the Castle Keep and in the surrounding gardens and castle ruins. Guvi and Nav were absolutely smitten with each other and barely noticed I was there- exactly what a photographer wants! Their smiles, laughs, and kisses were completely organic and I simply loved being a fly on the wall capturing their genuine love and excitement with a photojournalistic approach.
I had so much fun meeting this sweet couple and their families. I wish Guvi and Nav an abundance of blessings on their journey together. I will never forget this wonderful day!
